As in past years, Hermann's A.P. #6 originates with uold ngrafted vines, which are rare in the Treppchen. The grapes reached 85 Oechsle, which is on the high side for what Hermann deems ideal Kabinett material, but the wine is admirably nuoyant as well as animatingly bright. Peach andorange are coolingly bracing with mint on a fetching nose and a luscious polished palate, leading to a long, smoke- and herb-tinged finish that invigorates and consummately refreshes.
Picked in the last week of September and vinified in a classic fuder, the 2017 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett –6– is a clear, fresh, ripe and flinty Riesling with racy acidity and a piquant, lush finish. The finish is so salty, piquant and stimulating, even though the lush sweetness is a bit too high for my personal taste. In any case, this is a serious and tensioned Kabinett with a long, complex finish.
